Yesterday’s top headlines from cnn.com in song form. I’m not gonna stop doing this until cnn.com stops writing headlines.
New Song: If you won’t be mine this time (don’t think you’ll get another try)
Started writing this tune last week on Wednesday. Had a good idea for a chorus and just kinda worked on that all day. Getting the music down. Lifting some ideas from different places. Over the weekend, Friday and Saturday, I finished off the verses and cleaned it up.
Then I had to figure out how to sing it and what key to do it in.
Anyway, this one is all finished and done. Hope ya like it.
No rewritten song for a while
Last year around this time I went through a bit of a dry spell. Just stopped writing from this week until about mid-April. So there won’t be a rewritten song until the week of April 11 or so, because I don’t have any new material from last year to re-record.
But, by next week I’ll think up something new to do on Thursdays and Fridays. Gotta keep myself busy, ya know.
The Talkin’ Headline Blues #16
Here’s all the news from yesterday. All the most important news that CNN felt fit to appear on it’s main web page.
Also, the Barehand Jugband is starting it’s last-Tuesday-of-the-month residency at the Hideout tonight. It’s only five bucks. We’re gonna get hot and sticky layin it down in the front room.
New Song: I wouldn’t have to keep you on my mind
This one felt good to write. I needed to write it. Had to. Been mulling around over it for a week or two now. So I sat down last night and got to hammerin. I wouldn’t say it came out easy, but once I found a form I could work with everything slowly dropped into place.
If you’ve paid attention at all to any of my songs, you can see this one is pretty typical of the way I write a tune. It’s all about playing with repeating phrases, I guess. Not that I only do that in every song I write, but, most often, I do that in songs I end up liking the best.
This, I think, is also one of those tunes that I write and enjoy good enough and even maybe consider it to be a decent stab at something, but then later come back to it, in, say, a week or two, and really get knocked out by it. I think that’s what it is. I think.
Cause, really, I don’t have much of an idea what the song is about. It’s a little bit like “I’m Only Trying to Say What Comes to Me” in that way. Or maybe not. I probably know exactly what this is about. Probably.
So I’ll just see how it goes. I’ll have to try to out live. And I’ll have to try it at different tempos and all that, maybe.
Anyway, let me know what you think about it.
