New Song: One of these days

Now, don’t get mad. I may have already written this song. I don’t mean to say that it’s an old one cause I wrote all the words last night, put them to some music, and recorded it, but I have this feeling that I already wrote one with the exact same chorus. Maybe even the same title.

I don’t remember, though. Do you?

Anyway. I got the idea for this one late last night. After I wrote the first verse (about rockets) it was pretty easy to see where to pull the other verses from. It’s kind of another song about opposites, I think. But not exactly. More like being unable to find something, or get something right when you want or need it most. But knowing that if it’s true enough, it’ll turn out for you in the end.

Or maybe that’s not it at all. I like it either way.

New Song: Blues Dream #336 (version 2)

So, here’s the other version that I recorded, the first verison, of the new song that I posted for this week. I guess it’s strange, then, to call it “version 2,” but who’s keeping tabs anyway.

You can see, if you compare this to the one I released Monday (listen here), that this is slower. Well, not, necessarily the tempo. But something about it is slower. Or something. Get it?

It’s a lot more in line with other stuff I’ve recorded this year. The version from Monday was more of a stretch, both for me to sing and keep together. You can hear it in my voice. But I think that’s where I’m headed. I think I started heading in a new direction last year at about this time. A new sound.

I guess it’s something in the changing weather. Something bubbling in my blood.

But, either way you get two version of this song this week. That’s a special treat. Just in time for Halloween. Hope what you got to change into is good.

Rewritten Song: I sure hope it don’t (version 2)

Here’s the re-recorded version of the song I did this week, last year. I think I probably still like last year’s version (which you can listen to here) a little better. It’s a tad more polished, or something. Usually I like songs that aren’t like that, but this time it’s different.

Anyway.

For this new recording I added a chorus. I’m not entirely sure that it fits with this song. Really, I think it’s probably the start of another song. Maybe someone else’ll write it.

Also, this song has no fingerpicking, as in the original. And it’s just a straight up blues number. Last year’s version was not like that.

That’s about it.

The Talkin’ Headline Blues #51

Cnn.com headlines are funny, I think. Remember, I never edit these at all. They’re straight from the hallowed halls of the CNN home website.

Also, come out and see me singing in a jugband tonight at the Hideout. The show starts at 9pm. Goes til the break-a-dawn. Lotta people gonna be there shakin’ their rumps. Why not join in?

New Song: Blues Dream #336

This song worries me.

I began writing it on Friday and then finished it off last night. Started off as a kind of slow tune. Maybe even a little sentimental. Maybe not. Last night, though, I rearranged the whole thing after I’d finished off the words and recorded it as a slow number.

Just wasn’t working out slowly. I couldn’t find the right key. That sort of stuff.

I like the new arrangement, though. Maybe I’ll post the other recording on Thursday or Friday this week. Just for kicks.

I started it off, and wrote the repeating chorus line first and then the first verse and I felt like I was going somewhere, but then got a little stumped.

The next verses were a little more of a struggle. Took a couple days to get them done. To get all the words in the order that I wanted. But I think it rounded out nicely.

How about you, what do you think?
