Here’s a song about the weather. Go figure. It’s winter in the Midwest, so what else am I gonna write about?
I jotted this one down on Saturday over the weekend when I was practicing some other new songs from the past couple weeks.
I think I was actually going through the song “13 Women” that the Barehand Jugband does because I butchered it at our show on Thursday night and wanted to be sure I had it down for our show tonight at Double Door. (You’ve already got your tickets, right?)
Anyway, I was up-the-neck, so I just was kinda fooling around.
The words of this one kinda fool around too. They’re basically what I initially wrote, save for a few spot changes; and I dropped an entire verse that just was’t going anywhere fast.
So have a listen. And remember to come back on Thursday when I’ll post a re-recorded version of the new song I released one year ago this week.
Had this new song all ready to post yesterday and then my blog was down all day. But that’s okay. It’s the holidays. Time for forgiveness.
And this is a holiday song.
I don’t remember if I set out to write a holiday-specific song when I went into this one last Thursday, but it came out that way. It’s sort of cheesy and somewhat sentimental, but not too much of either to be considered too terrible, I guess.
It’s your basic strummed chords in the key of G and your basic singing of a song like I usually sing a song. But, anyway, I’m in the Christmas Spirit after writing this one, so I can dig it.
Wrote this tune last week on Tuesday. It’s another one of those personal reflection songs that really ain’t personal at all.
So don’t take it personal, okay?
I’ve probably used this melody before. I heard it in the morning before I wrote this one off an old Blind Boy Fuller record. His song’s different, though, cause he can really hammer it out on guitar. I, on the other hand, didn’t take the time to put any work into the guitar part (except a small Lester Flatt lick).
The words are completely different from anything that’s ever been written before. You can’t ask for more than that, I say.
So let me know what ya think of this one. Feedback, positive or negative, constructive or destructive, is always accepted.
Ok, folks. Here’s a new song I wrote last night. It’s a pretty accurate representation of what went on yesterday. I pulled no punches at all. It’s straight forward. It’s easy. It’s all there. You just gotta listen really close.
Okay, folks. Here’s the new song for this week. Sat down and hammered it out last night.
This one is a little different than others I’ve written. It’s a bit more stream-of-conscious, which I’m not sure of right now. I’m not used to that. Don’t know if I’ve got that style down quite right. But it’s a stab at something new, I guess.
Once I started in on the song it came pretty easy. Maybe 30 minutes total to get all the words down and fumble through a couple different melodies and guitar arrangements. I don’t know if I’ll ever play this out, or even keep working on it, but I bet some form of this song shows up later, down the road somewhere.
That’s all.
If you’re looking for some live music to go see this weekend the Barehand Jugband has a couple shows. Friday at the Hideout is the first one. It’s a Happy Hour session from 5:30pm-7pm in the front room. Always a great time.
