This is the collection of headlines for this week. It’s a rock-em-sock-em version. Or something.
I’m also still working n the new song. I think I have all the words, but still no music. I had an iTunes gift card laying around so I used it to buy a few new albums to help get things rolling along. I purchased Rare Wild Rock, volumes 1, 2, 3, and 13. Best 19 dollars I ever spent. The sound quality is not great (someone must have recorded them off 45s with a cheap mic and then added a whole bunch of reverb effects), but you can still hear the songs and get the feel. My head’s already whirring from listening this morning.
So, hopefully, by Wednesday I’ll have this new tune all finished up.
I haven’t felt in a while that one of these has been successful in any way other than making a jab at the news headlines in a sideways-type of glance to the person sitting way over there.
But this one. Well, I think it’s either the really strong tea I drank last night that’s still up in my head or the headlines fell in the right places on the right day. I think it kinda works on some whole other level. I have no idea what that is, though. It just feels like that.
Maybe you’d like to share your thoughts on these headlines and this song?
And, remember, that I have a show this week on Friday night (12/2). I’m playing at Lillstreet Art Center from 6-10pm during the First Friday event (and also during the Annual Holiday Open House at the same time). It’s FREE! I’ll have some CDs available. Go ahead, drop by.
I gotta admit it. I don’t read any of the news associated with the headlines I put in these songs. I’m completely oblivious to anything that’s going on anywhere. I’m an idiot.
Headlines! Headlines! Headlines! Read all about it!
Now, I know I didn’t get a new song up yesterday…well, I just don’t quite have one yet. But you get this Talkin’ Headline. And you’re assured of a re-recorded song too. So just hold tight, okay?
Okay, well, this week, last year I started writing the Talkin’ Headline Blues. I didn’t know that I’d still be doing it every week back then, but I just couldn’t stop.
I did one every day during that week last year. You can listen to all of them, plus a combination of all of them here:
Did you listen to them all? Have you listened to all 53 since then?
You can read an exhaustive explanation of why I started doing this song, here. I think, basically, the reasons haven’t changed. The headlines haven’t really changed either.
This re-record, though, isn’t really a re-record. I never recorded Talkin’ Headline #6 for whatever reason. So this is actually version one, but since it’s part of a series and since all the songs are just one song, you could drop the words from any into the music for this one.
That was confusing, right?
Anyway, I did this new version as a straight up blues tune. No talkin’ at all. I think it works okay, but maybe the singing kinda gets in the way of the headlines, which are really the most important part. I don’t want to distract you from them.
Just don’t forget that this recording is full of headlines from November 2010. Do you remember everything that happened?
So that’s that. Look for the new song for this week coming at you tomorrow or Friday. I got one cookin’, I think.
Also, did you know that I have a couple shows coming up? The first one is a last minute addition at Beat Kitchen on Sunday, November 13. Should be a fun show. It’ll be a warm-up for a show on November 20 at the Whistler as part of Lawrence Peters‘ Country Throw-down. That one is a RECORD RELEASE for the new EP out now. You’ll be able to get your very own copy with a one-of-a-kind Polaroid picture as cover art! Plus, if you want, you can take your own Polaroid (for a minimal charge) for very personal cover art. Fantastic!
The Whistler show starts at 10pm. Lawrence spins some hot classic country records after. Hope to see you there!
