Rewritten Song: The Talkin’ Headline Blues #6 (version 2)

Okay, well, this week, last year I started writing the Talkin’ Headline Blues. I didn’t know that I’d still be doing it every week back then, but I just couldn’t stop.

I did one every day during that week last year. You can listen to all of them, plus a combination of all of them here:

Did you listen to them all? Have you listened to all 53 since then?

You can read an exhaustive explanation of why I started doing this song, here. I think, basically, the reasons haven’t changed. The headlines haven’t really changed either.

This re-record, though, isn’t really a re-record. I never recorded Talkin’ Headline #6 for whatever reason. So this is actually version one, but since it’s part of a series and since all the songs are just one song, you could drop the words from any into the music for this one.

That was confusing, right?

Anyway, I did this new version as a straight up blues tune. No talkin’ at all. I think it works okay, but maybe the singing kinda gets in the way of the headlines, which are really the most important part. I don’t want to distract you from them.

Just don’t forget that this recording is full of headlines from November 2010. Do you remember everything that happened?

So that’s that. Look for the new song for this week coming at you tomorrow or Friday. I got one cookin’, I think.

Also, did you know that I have a couple shows coming up? The first one is a last minute addition at Beat Kitchen on Sunday, November 13. Should be a fun show. It’ll be a warm-up for a show on November 20 at the Whistler as part of Lawrence Peters‘ Country Throw-down. That one is a RECORD RELEASE for the new EP out now. You’ll be able to get your very own copy with a one-of-a-kind Polaroid picture as cover art! Plus, if you want, you can take your own Polaroid (for a minimal charge) for very personal cover art. Fantastic!

The Whistler show starts at 10pm. Lawrence spins some hot classic country records after. Hope to see you there!

The Talkin’ Headline Blues #53

Here we go again. I’ve actually been doing these Talkin’ Headline Blues tunes for a year now. First one was this week, last year. Hasn’t been a year straight, just a year since I started em.

Anyway. The headlines are still as funny and confusing. Thanks to cnn.com. They deserve all the credit.

Ps. So, because this was the new song last year that means you get two Talkin’ Headline’s this week. I’ve already re-recorded a previous version. I’ll post it either Wednesday or Thursday.

And I know I didn’t get a new song out yesterday. I’m working on it, okay. Sometimes it’s harder than other times to write one. You’ll just have to check back every day. Every hour. Every minute and second.

The Morning Train (version 2)

Well, here we are. Another re-record of a song from last year. Can you tell I put a lot of time into this one? That I didn’t wait until the very last minute?

Anyway. Go listen to the original version here. I still like that one better, I think. This new one has it’s merits, but it’s merely acting tough. Puffing up it’s chest to impress the ladies waiting in the bus vestibule.

Did you know that I have a big record release show coming up? No? Well, it’s Sunday, November 20 at the Whistler in Logan Square. I’ll have a brand new EP on sale for the first time here in Chicago. There are some great new Polaroid cover shots (every one is different) on the EPs. You could even take one of your own! How about that! Plus this is a FREE show. You just have to be there. If you aren’t then, well, something bad will happen. The show starts around 9pm.

New Song: One of these days

Now, don’t get mad. I may have already written this song. I don’t mean to say that it’s an old one cause I wrote all the words last night, put them to some music, and recorded it, but I have this feeling that I already wrote one with the exact same chorus. Maybe even the same title.

I don’t remember, though. Do you?

Anyway. I got the idea for this one late last night. After I wrote the first verse (about rockets) it was pretty easy to see where to pull the other verses from. It’s kind of another song about opposites, I think. But not exactly. More like being unable to find something, or get something right when you want or need it most. But knowing that if it’s true enough, it’ll turn out for you in the end.

Or maybe that’s not it at all. I like it either way.
