The Talkin’ Headline Blues #47

Here’s the new set of headlines from cnn.com. Lots going on in the news these days, huh? Maybe. I’m not really sure. It’s hard to tell, right?

Anyway. I know there wasn’t a new song yesterday. I got stuck on Sunday night and didn’t quite get one done for this week. But…I wrote one last night. Not the same thing I started Sunday or the same thing I was working on Monday.

Regardless, it’ll be up tomorrow for you to listen to. So don’t miss out.

Tonight I’m playing in the Barehand Jugband over at the Hideout. It’s our regular last-Tuesday-of-the-month show. This one’s gonna be in the back room, though, so there’s more floorspace for dancing. Plus there’ll be a dance troupe there to teach swing dance steps before we start playing. Should be a good time.

And, EP1, the new short-play album that I put out, is now available on iTunes, as well as CDBaby, in digital form. If you want a CD copy, you’ll have to come to a show, or wait a week or so until I get some copies sent to CDBaby. In any event, if you buy a CD you get a one-of-a-kind Polaroid picture as cover art.

Rewritten Song: I ain’t gonna be returning that-a-way (version 2)

Here’s the new version of the song from this week, last year. It’s actually not a totally new version. I think I came up with this a few weeks after I recorded the original and then I played the new version out several times. But I never recorded it and I think it’s a pretty interesting rewrite of the tune.

You can compare it to the original by going here. You also get to read about where the song came from.

So, anyway, that’s that.

Also, remember that the EP album that I released and started selling CDs of is finally available for purchase online. You can buy it from CDBaby as digital files (soon you can get CDs there to, once I get them in the mail), and from itunes in the next week or so. Go check it out.

New Song: Not me, not me

Alright, alright, here’s the new song for this week. I was working from behind again because of the out-of-town shows down in Louisville, but I got it all caught up now.

I thought I had a couple tunes to work on that I started last week, and then another one that I started in the car trip back from Kentucky, but none of those really grabbed my attention when I sat down with em on Monday night. So I started this one.

Actually, I had the idea for this in the car Monday night driving back to my house. Jotted it down quick and then worked up the first two verses, which came really fast.

The rest of the song kinda fell into place by Tuesday night, although I’m still not really sure on the layout of it. Don’t know if I totally like that there’s two repeating elements. It’s different than usual, but also it’s not. I’ll keep working on it. Maybe get some help at some point.

I think it’s an okay song at this point, though. How about you?

The Talkin’ Headline Blues #46

Here’s the new talkin’ blues for this week. All the highly relevant headlines that you just need to know. Do not forget them until right after you listen to this song.

You can tell that my voice is still recovering, right? I’m trying to take it easy, but I also gotta keep my head straight, ya know?

Anyway, I definitely have a new tune working for this week. It’ll be up tomorrow, I’m hoping. Be sure to come back and check it out.

Rewritten Song: Working all day (version 2)

Okay, well, this isn’t a new song. Like I told ya last week, I’m not posting a new one today because I was down in Louisville since Thursday playing a few shows. So I didn’t get a chance to record a new one. I’ve got something working, though. Should have it by Wednesday this week.

This song for today is a re-recorded version of the other song I released last week last year. You can check out the original here. It’s a pretty straight forward tune. Nothing much to say about the new version, other than I used the melody from the song “Acres of Clams.” Or, I used the melody of the version I know, which is the version that Ramblin’ Jack Elliott does.

So that’s that.
