Yes! Some really great headlines yesterday, although no a whole lot of good rhyming ones. I had to work at this one, but I think it turned out well. Made me giggle in a couple spots. Can you figure out which ones?

Rewritten Song: Winter (version 2)
I’m doing the re-record first this week cause I didn’t quite get the new song done last night. I think I’ve got the music down, but the words just weren’t ready yet. So, you get this today.
Lately I’ve been thinking how these re-recorded songs are taking up a lot of time and maybe taking time away from writing new songs, but then I decided that they also help me to get to new places each week. I’m at least thinking of doing something different with an old song, so maybe some of that seeps into my head to do something different with a new song. In any case, at least it keeps me working.
So, for this one, today, I think it’s fairly different, not just from last year’s (go listen and compare!), but also from a lot of other tunes I’ve been writing and recording lately. The phrasing is different. The singing is a little different. It’s just different. Different for me anyway.
Let me know what you think….
Rewritten Song: If I didn’t still have you (version 2)
Here’s the re-recorded version of the song I wrote this week, last year. I’ll have to admit that I like the original better, but I’ll leave it to you to compare the two (listen to the original here) and give me some feedback.
Also, please please please come out to the show that I’m playing this Friday (12/16) at the Auxiliary in Logan Square. It’s also a clothing drive, so bring your old threads that you don’t wear anymore and donate them to someone who will.
End Times Spasm Band is coming in from Fort Wayne, Indiana, and this is their first Chicago show. They’re Indiana’s hottest band, so don’t miss em.
5 dollars at the door. BYOB. Doors open at 8pm and the show starts at 9pm.
Check out the details and who else is playing at the facebook event. Gonna be a hot one!
New Song: Go when you need to go
Well, I wrote this song last night. Had a different one that I’d written on Sunday night, but it wasn’t the kind of song I like. Was an angry and spiteful one. I don’t think those kind of songs are ever very good. Those kind, or the kind that poke fun at people that aren’t like you.
So, anyway, I scrapped that one and kinda used some pieces from it to write this one. I think it works fairly well. And probably gets the feeling across that I was trying for in the other one, without being melodramatic or hurtful.
This one, though, was incredibly hard to record. I think I started and stopped about 600 times. There’s something about the rhythm of the music and the way the words match up to it that’s both interesting to me and very hard to sing. Maybe that’s why it’s interesting.
I finally got it, for the most part. So enjoy.
Also, remember that I have a show this Friday (12/16) at the Auxiliary in Logan Square. End Times Spasm Band is gonna be there and you do NOT want to miss them. They’re from Fort Wayne, Indiana, and this is their first Chicago show. So you could be the first person in this city to ever see them. How bout that! It’s only 5 dollars at the door. Plus the Auxiliary is BYOB. Doors open at 8pm and the show starts at 9pm.

The Talkin’ Headline Blues #58
Woah…woah! I’ve done 58 of these things? Geez…
At this point, I wonder if anyone at cnn.com knows what I’m doing? Sometimes these talkin’ blues tunes are a little too easy to write, I think. Like maybe someone over there is throwing me a bone by including so many rhyming words in the headlines.
But, really, I don’t think that.
The show on the 16th also gonna be pretty great too. End Times Spasm Band is gonna be there and you do NOT want to miss them. They’re from Fort Wayne, Indiana, so they don’t play in Chicago a lot. Get out to see ‘em. It’s only 5 dollars at the door. Plus the Auxiliary is BYOB.
Check out the details at the facebook event. Gonna be a hot show!
